Medical Disclaimer

Calvi keeps a record and estimates numbers. It does not diagnose, does not prescribe, and does not replace a doctor.

What this document is

This disclaimer forms part of the Terms of Use and applies to every part of the Service, including the diary, the analysis screens and the assistant. Where the Terms and this document address the same subject, both are to be read together.

Not a medical device

Calvi is a self-tracking application for nutrition and body measurements. It is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, mitigate or prevent any disease or medical condition. It does not prescribe diets, does not adjust treatment, and does not replace a doctor or a dietitian.

Estimates, not measurements

Nutritional values are derived from your description or photograph and from public food reference databases. They are approximations and may be materially inaccurate. Daily targets for energy and macronutrients are calculated from a general population formula using the figures you enter; they are a starting point, not a prescription, and they are not adjusted to any medical condition you may have.

Energy spent is an estimate as well: from the kind and duration of an activity, from the number of steps together with your height and weight, or, for a workout brought in from Apple Health, as recorded by the device. Where Apple Health is connected, the daily target takes the movement it measures in place of the activity level you chose.

Allergens are a hint, not a guarantee

Allergen indications are built from public product data and from the description you provide. Those sources can be incomplete, changed by the manufacturer without notice, or silent about cross-contamination in production. An absent warning is not evidence that a product is safe for you.

Where an allergy is severe, the packaging in your hand remains the final word, and the Service is not a substitute for reading it.

Medication, injections and peptides

The medication log records what you tell it: the substance, the amount and the time. That record is yours, and the Service draws no clinical conclusion from it.

  • We recommend none of it. Reference pages describe substances and the amounts reported for them in published research, manufacturer instructions and other open sources. That is a description of what those sources say, not a scheme to follow. We DO NOT RECOMMEND, DO NOT OFFER, DO NOT ADVERTISE and DO NOT ADVISE the use of any substance named anywhere in the Service.
  • Many of these substances are not medicines. Many substances people track are approved by no regulator: not by the FDA, not by the EMA, not by any other. Some are still in clinical trials. Others are sold only as research reagents, and nobody guarantees the purity or the true contents of what is sold under a given name. The regulatory status is stated at the top of every substance page, and it is there to be read before the numbers below it.
  • No dose is ever chosen for you. No part of the Service prescribes, selects, suggests or titrates a dose, and no figure it displays is a recommendation to take that amount. Choosing a dose belongs to a qualified prescriber who knows your history.
  • Arithmetic converts, it does not decide. Where the Service performs any calculation on a dose, it converts a dose you already know into syringe units. It does not select that dose, and the number it shows is not a recommendation to inject that amount. The figure you start from must come from your prescriber or from the product instructions, and the result is only as correct as what you entered.

Do not start, stop, resume or change the substance, the dose, the schedule or the route of any medication or injection on the basis of anything you read, record or calculate in Calvi. An injection carries risk of its own, and these substances interact with each other, with medicines you have been prescribed and with conditions you already have. Speak to a qualified healthcare professional first, and if you feel unwell seek medical help.

Disordered eating

Counting calories does not suit everyone. For some people the counting itself is harmful: it can sustain restriction, turn eating into arithmetic, and make a number on a screen feel like a verdict on the day.

If you have an eating disorder, are recovering from one, or suspect you may have one, speak to a qualified professional before using the calorie, weight or measurement features. Calvi is not a treatment for eating disorders and does not replace professional care. You can use the diary without weight or measurements, and you can delete either at any time.

About the assistant

Nora is an automated assistant built on a language model. It can be inaccurate or incomplete, it can misread a photograph, and it can state something confidently and be wrong.

  • It gives no clinical advice. The assistant does not provide medical, nutritional or pharmaceutical advice and does not substitute for consultation with a qualified professional.
  • Do not ask it for a diagnosis or a dose. Nor should you treat anything it says as though it were one, even where it answers the question.
  • Check what matters. Where a decision touches your health or your safety, verify it with a qualified professional rather than with the assistant.

How the assistant processes what you send it, and what is retained afterwards, is described in the Privacy Policy.

When to speak to a professional

Consult a qualified healthcare professional before making significant changes to your diet, physical activity, supplements or medication. This applies in particular if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are under eighteen, or live with a condition such as diabetes, or heart, kidney, liver, thyroid or metabolic disease.

Sudden weight loss or gain that you did not intend, and any symptom that worries you, belong to a doctor rather than to a diary. In a medical emergency, contact your local emergency services; do not rely on the Service.

Your responsibility

You use the Service at your own discretion and remain responsible for your own health decisions. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the operator is not liable for any consequence of relying on information obtained from the Service. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and the Limitation of liability section of the Terms applies in full.
